A "Colorful" Girls' trip tp KC-DAY 2

Day 2 (Sunday) didn't not start out as great as DAY 1....

My alarm didn't go off at 5:00 am (I checked my phone three times the night before too!) and I somehow woke up at 5:20.  I had planned on leaving by 5:30 to head to Arrowhead Stadium for the COLOR Run, so I jumped out of bed and got ready as fast as I could.  I woke up Bryce and just had to put on her pants, shoes and socks.  (I had her sleep in her white shirt, to make my morning easier/faster!)  You are probably thinking "why are you guys  leaving at 5:30 AM"??  Well, we still had to pick up our packets and they recommended getting there by 6 at the latest due to long lines.  We were out the door at 5:30 (I don't know how!) and had 31 minutes (according to my GPS) to get to the Staduim.  After leaving Matt's apartment complex, we started hearing this thumping sound.  We figured that there was something hanging out of the door and banging against the side of my car.  The noise got louder and then 15 minutes after leaving we heard a big bang and I could tell I had a FLAT TIRE.  I  have NEVER had a flat tire before and here I was at 5:45 in the morning, on a Kansas City highway, with a 4 year and no husband and a flat tire!  I then had to figure out what I was going to do.  I barely made it to the side of the road because it went flat on an over-pass. Just my luck!  I pulled over and immediately called my dad.  I knew that my little brother would still be asleep, my husband was in Colorado and I knew no one else in the area.  My dad calmed me down and told me to call for a tow truck or 911 to get a policeman to help me.  I called 911 and they dispatched one my way.  This was at 5:50.  We waited and waited.  I figured I could get out and try to fix it myself., so I unscrewed the lugnuts (sp?) and started jacking up the car and then at 6:20, a VERY nice man pulled over and helped us put the doughnut on.  He was so nice!  He even got it all done in about 10-15 minutes!  (By the way, a policeman never did show up....)  We were then on our way to the COLOR Run at 6:45!  I really didn't think we would make it!  After driving no faster than 45 mph, we pulled into the parking lot (LOT N) at 7:05 and the race started at 7:30.  We still had to pick up our packets and only had 25 minutes!  Of course the lot that we parked in was on the opposite side of the parking lot as the Check-in/Start Line.  Bryce was already "tired" and didn't want to walk ,so I had to carry her and walk as fast as I could to get there in time.  We made it and got our number/shirts/goodies and headed to the Start Line.  We ended up being in the 5th wave of people.  While waiting to "start", Bryce was not having it!  She kept sitting on the ground and pouting/whining.  She was hot. She was tired.  She didn't want to walk.  I was coming unraveled myself....  Our wave finally crossed the Start Line and guess what? I was carrying my 40 lb, 4 year old!  She whined the whole first kilometer until she saw the paint dust and flags.  She ran through the first paint "station"(YELLOW PAINT) and loved it!  She was smiling and laughing!  Then, she went back to being a "crabby patty"!  I carried her another kilometer and again when we hit the paint area, she jumped down and ran through the paint! (ORANGE PAINT)  I really wish I had my camera to capture her smile!  She was in heaven!  This happened again through the next paint area (PINK PAINT).  By this time I was sweating pretty good and my back was starting to hurt, so we took a "short cut' through the parking lot and just headed toward the big group of people who finished the race.  (We never actually "finished" the race!)  Bryce just wanted to throw her paint into the air and make the paint cloud.  It was so cool to see all the paint in the air.  This was Bryce's environment!  Again, I wish I had my camera!!  Here are the pictures I got at the car before we wiped off.

After the COLOR run, we had to head to a Wal-Mart to get a new tire.  The first Wal-Mart that my GPS sent me to wasn't there anymore! And the second one was a Wal-Mart Market and didn't have an Automotive area!  Just my luck!!  Finally Kyle found one on his phone and called to make sure they had an automotive area (after I had a temper tantrum on the phone!).  We finally made it there and waited an hour and a half for a new tire.  Did I mention that we are still pretty much covered in paint?  Bryce looks like she was beat up with her mixture of blue and red paint covering her face!
By 1:00, we were on our way back to Wichita-FINALLY!!

The day was filled with LOTS of crying (mostly me!), some screaming (also mostly me and on the phone with Kyle) and one curse word-which was on a text, so does it count??
I do have to say that it was ALL worth it to watch Bryce's smile when she was throwing paint powder into the sky!! :)

P.S. My "Check Oil" light came on when we got to El Dorado too!
P.S.S.  I've never disliked my car this much!
P.S.S.S.  I'm probably not leaving Wichita again by myself....

The life of the Banicks!!!

A "Colorful" Girls' Trip to KC-DAY 1

Bryce and I headed to Kansas City for the Color Run this Sunday.  We left on Saturday after lunch and decided to stop in Lawrence to see my twin brother, Clint.  We had a smooth drive and made it to Lawrence in great time.  (It helps that the Turnpike is 75 mph now!)     First, we hit up the library to drop off some things for Clint, so Bryce and I checked out the Children's Area.  It was pretty cool.  There were colorful seating areas all over.  We stopped and looked at some books in a little nook by the windows.  (It had an A/C vent right by it! :))

We walked around downtown awhile before finding a place to eat. Downtown Lawrence is full of all kinds of people and gives way to lots of people watching!  It's fun to see how many people my brother knows.
Then, we stopped and had hamburgers and fries at this really cool little place (I don't remember the name) and the walls were covered in dollar bills that were decorated.  Pretty neat!  After dinner, we walked around some more before we were drenched in sweat (It was 102 degrees!)!  We had planned to go swimming but by this time Bryce was turning into a monster due the heat and no nap.  We dropped Clint back off at his apartment and made plans to come up another day for swimming.  We got a couple pictures before we left.  (Bryce wasn't in a picture-taking mood!)
 Playing around with Uncle Clint

 :)

 Clint's dog, Zappa  Love her!

We left Clint's and Lawrence around 6:30 and headed towards Olathe to stay with my little brother, Matt.  Bryce was starting to wear down in the car, and this is what happened when we were 15 minutes away from his apartment! :)

The sleeping didn't last long and she was ready to play!  We decided to take Matt's dog, Kam to the dog park right by his apartment.  Kam needed to get out of the house!  Kam and Bryce played around and played catch with a tennis ball.

Matt showed us how Kam loves to swim in the water.
We played fetch in the water for awhile.
Kam loved it!

Of course Bryce saw the playground,so we played there before heading back to get ready for bed.

Kam didn't want to miss out on the playground fun!

Bryce decided to sneak in some mountain climbers and...

some dips!

Matt was a nice brother and let us sleep in his bed with some new sheets! :)  Bryce moved around
A LOT and slept ON me most of the night, so I didn't get much sleep.
But it was a GREAT day and I loved spending time with BOTH of my brothers!

Stay tuned for DAY 2....
